Creation Care: Activity for Mother’s Day

April 27, 2022 Leave a Comment

For this month’s creation care activity, we’re looking ahead a couple of weeks to Mother’s Day. Perhaps you plan on buying your mother a bouquet of flowers, or maybe your children’s church typically makes a small gift to give to mothers in the church.

This year, we’d like to encourage you to go local for your Mother’s Day bouquet! Maybe there are some flowers already growing in your backyard, your neighbor’s backyard (with permission, of course), or in the church yard that you could use to make your own bouquet. Or, if not, a quick trip to the farmer’s market or a local florist could be a great way to educate the kids in your church about native, seasonal flowers.

If you like the idea of growing and picking your own native flowers, but you don’t have any growing this year, you can follow this link to purchase a packet of seven native flowering plant seeds from the North Carolina Wildlife Federation. These flowers will provide excellent habitat for butterflies and other pollinators, and by this time next year they also might make a great backyard bouquet!
