Psalm 133
How very good and pleasant it is when kindred live together in unity!
Psalm 133 is short, yet it contains a powerful reminder. A united community is good and pleasant, and it glorifies God. As I think about what it means to be grounded in Scripture, it is about identifying and embracing the many lessons we find about unity. Even more, a life grounded in Scripture will guide others to be united and harmonious.
Recently, I had the opportunity to offer a series of workshops about leadership and mental health to the staff of an organization that offers different programs and builds houses for families with low income in Reynosa, Mexico. When we were about to finish our first day together, they notified me that one of the participants had to leave because she had a family emergency.
As I arrived the second day, they shared the sad news that their friend’s mother had died the day before. It was evident that everyone was hurting, so we had a time of prayer, and then we continued with the program. After we finished, one of the organization’s leaders invited me to join her to visit the family with the recent loss.
We went and offered our condolences, and as we were leaving the place, I saw a full van arriving. It was all the staff from the organization. The leader mentioned to me that it is a common practice that when any team member has difficulty, they offer their support, “Somos Familia,” she said. We are family and support one another as much as possible.
Being grounded in Scripture is about showing that we care for one another, especially those in pain. Who is in pain in your midst? How can you show your love and solidarity? How can you be family to them?
God, help us to care for those who suffer today. Amen.
